How to carry out this lesson at home:

Resources:
• toothpicks
• handout – Toothpick Triangles
• handout – Classify the Triangles

Lesson Description:
1. Start off the lesson by watching the video about the properties of triangles (click HERE). The video will outline how we can classify equilateral, scalene and isosceles triangles by looking at the length of their sides.
2. Then together with the pupil go through the PowerPoint Presentation to further consolidate the properties of these different triangles (click HERE).
3. Next ask the pupil to grab some toothpicks and have a go at building the triangles following the instructions on the ‘Toothpick Triangles’ handout (click HERE). When the pupil constructs the triangle, he / she has to sketch it and write its name.
4. Finally the pupil can try to work out the handout ‘Classify the Triangles’ (click HERE). The answer sheet follows this handout.
