1. Write clothes in the centre of the Mind Map.
a. Ask your child to write as many clothes names as the child knows on the Mind Map. (Note – spelling is not important at this stage.)
b. Ask your child to read the written words out loud (disregard any misspellings). Just listen and help with pronunciation if you see that the child is struggling.
2. Present the flashcards: 12 pictures and 12 words.
a. Show the first picture and check if the child knows the name by asking, “What is this?” If the child doesn’t know it, say “It’s a ….”.
b. Invite your child to repeat after you.
c. Repeat this procedure for all 12 pictures. (Note – shorts, jeans, trousers, socks and shoes do not take ‘a’. So you say, “It’s shorts”, “It’s jeans” etc.
3.Now spread all the words and pictures on a table in front of you.
a. Put the pictures and words in separate lines opposite each other.
b. Point to a word and ask the child to show you the picture. Say, “It’s a shirt. Show me the shirt picture”. The child points to the shirt. Give the child three (3) chances before you answer.
c. Repeat for all 12 words.
d. Now do it the other way round: Point to a picture and ask the child to find the corresponding word. Say, “It’s jeans. Show me the jeans word”. The child points to the word. Give the child three (3) chances before you answer.
e. Repeat for all 12 pictures.
4. Play a memory game: Put all cards face down – words on one side and pictures on another. Take turns. For each turn, each player is allowed to uncover two (2) cards. The one who has the most cards wins the memory award!
5. Ask the child to colour in the black and white pictures and write the names of the clothes. First, try writing without looking; then check the word with the word card and correct if necessary.
6. Work out the worksheet. A worksheet with answers is also provided.
