How to carry out this lesson at home:

This post is aimed at giving the child (and the adult) the confidence to approach this musical instrument with joy and interest. Here is a set of 10 learning opportunities linked to the topic. They include excerpts for listening or watching, all intended to help develop a child’s way of looking at a piano keyboard and to familiarise a child’s ear to the sound of the piano. Excerpts were particularly chosen to engage children to listen with interest.

For the child who loves to learn facts, information has been included, about the science of sound. Answers will also be provided to such questions as: How does a piano look from the inside?
