L’Autocorrection – Correcting your own mistakes

This lesson was contributed by:

Lesson Duration:

40 mins.

What should you expect from this lesson?

Very often, when we receive a corrected essay, we do not really go over our work to revise the mistakes so as not to repeat them. Unfortunately, we just make sure that we obtain a decent mark and that is it. It is not the first time that we repeat the same mistakes over and over again. This is because we do not really and truly try to understand the teacher's correction. In this lesson, you will learn self-assessment strategies which will help you minimise certain mistakes.

How to carry out this lesson at home:

Bonjour chers élèves!

Step 1 : Open the PPT and see slides 1, 2, 3 and 4. On slide 4, you are invited to read Julie’s text and find her mistakes. On the same slide, numbers will pop up on top of the mistake which will enable you to check your answers.

Step 2 : Go to slide 5. As you can see, mistakes can be coded as follows : O -Orthographe (Spelling) , V-Verbe, G-Grammaire.

Step 3 : On Slide 6 you can see that mistakes can be classified using the template Fiche d’Autocorrection (see template attached).

Step 4 : The Grille d’Autoévaluation on Slide 7 (see template attached) allows you to work out the ratio of mistakes for each writing task. You have to count the number of words of the text and the number of mistakes. Then divide the number of words by the number of mistakes. Julie had made 1 mistake every 4 words. Hopefully, next time she will only have 1 mistake every 10 words, just to give you an example.

Step 5 : In order to get used to this self-assessment strategy, on slide 8 you will find another text : read it, underline the mistakes and fill in the Fiche d’autocorrection and eventually the Grille d’autoévaluation.

Step 6 : You can use this procedure each time you receive your corrected work from your teacher. Do not be discouraged! You will get used to it because it will help you improve your written work!

Bonne chance! 😉
