How to carry out this lesson at home:

Resources needed for this lesson together with the other resources provided as pdfs in this page:

  • Printout of the  house template
  • Colours or any other painting materials
  • Biros or pencils
  • Glue or double-sided type
  1. Start by taking the time to watch this video.
Laudato Si’: Animated clip for kids.
  2. As is said at the very beginning of this video clip, Pope Francis wrote this letter to everyone. He asked all humans to love each other in many ways, one of which is that of caring for our common home – planet Earth. Take some time and think about this Universal Call for Love and Care for Our Planet and for Each Other.
  3. Some say that our word is filled with beauty and wonder. Do you agree? If yes, can you think and name some of these beauties and wonders? Working out this online puzzle can help you remember some of these wonders.
  4. Unfortunately, some wonders have already been lost like species which have become extinct. Can you list some ways and actions which are destroying our common home?
  5. We can all agree that this is not right and not fair not only for us but also for future generations. Can you think of some simple eco-actions which we can make to save the Earth? This video song, Earth day, can give you some ideas.
  6. Now, with the help of an adult print and cut around the house template provided as a pdf.
  7. While colouring it, read and think about the simple eco-action which is suggested on each part of this template.
  8. After folding along the dotted line and glueing it together, you can say a prayer to:
a)Thank God for Earth which is our common home
b)Ask God to give you the necessary courage to make the difference you can in your lifestyle so that you will protect and care for this one big home of us all.
Example: Dear God I want to thank you for giving us Planet Earth. Please help me care for it.
  9. Finally, place this paper house somewhere so it will remind you:
    a) to pray for those who make the decisions so that they will care for the Earth.
    b) to adopt a lifestyle of actions which will safeguard and save the world.

The video link entitled ‘Id-Dar Komuni Tagħna’ can guide you along with these steps.
