This will be a revision of telling time to the hour.
Lesson Development
Students are then told that they will be learning how to read time to the half hour. They are introduced to time to the half hour with the following video:
After the video, students are taught the half past concept using a clock face:
• When the minute hand points at 6, it is half past (show on the clock face by arranging the minute hand on the 6).
• This is because the minute hand has moved half way round the clock (move the minute hand of the clock face from 12 to 6)
• While at half past, the hour hand is exactly half way between 2 numbers (show on the clock face by putting the hour hand half way between e.g 9 and 10)
• Students are then asked what time is it? Since the hour hand was on the 9 and moving to 10
Students can then practice reading time to the half hour by playing the following games:
Game 1
Game 2
Game 3 …and choose Measurement and Data – Tell time to the Half Hour
