Aural Awareness
Students will be introduced to animal sounds. Each individual animal has a unique sound/voice and during this lesson students will go through some animals and insects and listen to the sounds they make.

The students will discover some new instruments. Pictures and sounds will help the students understand what sound and where these instruments are mostly played.

Students shall clap four beats every time; however they
should bear in mind that an empty space means that they should ‘have a rest’. Each beat / clap represents a
crotchet.
The teacher is to encourage pupils to experiment with their voice sounds. In this way students develop an awareness and control of pitch. The teacher shows students an enlarged copy of High / Low Frogs and indicates
with his/her hand or with a small toy frog the up and down movement. Students will then sing song after hearing the teacher.
The Student will learn about high pitched notes and low pitched notes. The song Humpty Dumpty will help the student understand that when Humpty is on the wall high notes are played and when Humpty is on the floor low notes are played.
Students learn to make a difference between high-pitched and low-pitched notes by listening to high and low pitched notes played on the xylophone .
Students are provided with a template of the window-pane and also 4 raindrops each. The teacher plays a note in high, middle or low register and each student puts the raindrop in the appropriate pane.
Students learn to recognise whether notes are going up, down or being repeated.
Students are introduced to music notation, two notes to be introduced at this stage are Soh and Mi. Students start following rhythmic and melodic simple patterns. They are also encouraged to sing and play rhythmic and melodic patterns

The teacher guides the students to start listening attentively to music. Reference is made to various body sounds, mainly stamping, slapping, clapping and snapping. The students should also clap or use body percussion to keep to the pulse.

Students will be introduced to the notion of emotions in music. They will also understand that for every occasaion we can combine adequate music.

Students are exposed to and learn how to improvise on instruments to audio-visual experiences. The teacher can choose a story and adapt the instruments to be used accordingly.
Children will be exposed to the fact that it is never too late or too early to learn Music.
