Children will continue to learn about the Baroque period. They will listen and observe some Baroque dances – Allemand, Courante, Sarabande and Gigue – and learn about the Baroque Dance Suite.

Children are introduced to the Classical Period. They will listen to works by Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven. They will be able to compare works of different composers of this era.

Orchestra Sections

Children will revise the four instrument sections of the orchestra. They will understand better that instruments in the same section have similar characteristics and timbre. They will be able to sort instruments in the appropriate family sections.

The Nutcracker Suite

Children will be introduced to the ballet ‘The Nutcracker Suite’ by Tchaikovsky. They will understand ballet as a genre as well as understand the storyline of ‘The Nutcracker Suite’ and the characters.

Children will be introduced to the fairy-tale opera ‘Hansel and Gretel’. They will learn the meaning of opera, and will listen and explore some of the music of ‘Hansel and Gretel’.
