Step 1: Think about the virtues that we discussed in Year 4. ‘Do you remember what virtues are?’ Think of a few examples.
Step 2. Open the PowerPoint Presentation “Mason’s Greatest Gems” and read the story.
About the story: As he does every Saturday afternoon, Mason is digging next to the old swing when he finds a handful of items for his treasure collection.
Mason’s Greatest Gems is a story about finding hidden gems inside yourself, with an introduction to the concept of virtues for children. It features a little boy who learns about mining gems after finding a treasure in his backyard. Using his experience of finding and polishing a piece of quartz as a metaphor, he then learns what it means to develop qualities like kindness, helpfulness, courtesy and more.
It is designed to give children a visual example of what it means to develop positive character traits.
Step 3: Now think about your own virtues. Open Activity Sheet 1 and note them down. Decorate as you wish.
Step 4: There are many virtues. Open and read ‘A List of Virtues’.
Step 5: Complete Activity Sheet 2 ‘Finish the Sentence’.
Step 6: Send the completed work of Activity Sheet 1 and Activity Sheet 2 to your teacher.
Step 7 (optional): Try and play this Group Memory game with family members. Cut out the virtues and read the instructions of the game on Activity Sheet 3: Group Memory Game
