What should you expect from this lesson?

Waste separation is simple to implement and will make the recycling process a lot easier. This lesson is about: • The difference between liquid and solid waste, organic and inorganic waste and the benefits of separating waste at source. • the steps to follow when organizing waste for recycling and to be taken to bring-in sites. • ways of how we can Reuse, Reduce, Recycle, Return and Refill. • bi-products such as compost and bio-diesel that are being made from generated waste.

How to carry out this lesson at home:

• Task 1: Follow the PPT presentation titled: ‘Presentation – Separating Waste’ to learn about the difference between liquid and solid waste, organic and inorganic waste and the benefits of separating waste at source.  Pay particular attention to the steps to follow when organizing waste for recycling and to be taken to bring-in sites, as well as ways of how to Reuse, Reduce, Recycle, Return and Refill bi-products such as compost and bio-diesel that are being made from generated waste.
• Task 2: After going through all the PPT presentation, test your knowledge about separating waste by working out Handout 1 – separating Waste and Handout 2 – Bring in sites.  Use the answer sheets provided to check your answers.
• Task 3: Access the activity handout  – Let’s Be creative!  and carry out this interesting activity.
